I recently read the First Amendment closely. Studied the five rights it guarantees and concluded it's awesome and kinda the definition of what it is to be an American.
Then I read about the Second Amendment. Read about how it means this or means that as if I wasn't capable of understanding a sentence.
Then it dawned on me... The First Amendment is 1st for a reason. It's long, complicated and covers five extremely important and distinct freedoms. The second is one sentence and has nothing to do with hunting because that was a given. It has everything to do with protecting the First Amendment and our Democracy against enemies both foreign and domestic.
The breakthrough for me was realizing that a bunch of Afghanistan goat herders armed with essentally semi-automatic rifles could successfully standup against a world power for 17 years and counting.
That every able American has a shared responsibility to defend our Democracy. That there are forces on the left and right wearing masks who have showed their hand. Some are fomenting violence against various aspects of the First Amendment and seemingly seek to overthrow the duly elected government.
The Second Amendment isn't about hunting it's very much about protecting the First Amendment. The next time you see a riot pay attention to who is hitting whom. Who are sporting t-shirts with images of communist, Marxist or socialist revolutionaries. Better yet, break out the tequila and take a shot every time you see the hammer and sickle or five star red flag.
